Epilepsy is a neurological disorder in which a person experiences repeated seizures caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Seizures can range from brief episodes of staring or confusion to sudden jerking movements and loss of consciousness. A single seizure does not always mean a person has epilepsy, and proper evaluation is necessary to determine the cause. During a seizure, remain calm, protect the person from injury, gently turn them onto their side, and avoid placing anything in their mouth.

Most people with epilepsy can lead normal, active lives with the help of medications and regular follow-up. Missing medicines or stopping treatment without medical advice can increase the risk of seizures. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment help achieve better seizure control and improve overall quality of life.
