Asthma is a long-term condition in which the airways become inflamed and narrow, making it difficult for a child to breathe. Common symptoms include recurrent coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath, especially during exercise, at night, or after exposure to dust, pollen, smoke, or respiratory infections. Although asthma cannot be completely cured, it can be effectively controlled with the right medications and by avoiding known triggers. Children with well-managed asthma can participate in school, sports, and other daily activities without limitations.

Parents should never ignore repeated episodes of wheezing or persistent cough, as early diagnosis helps prevent severe attacks and protects lung health. Regular follow-up with a paediatrician and adherence to the prescribed treatment plan allow most children with asthma to lead active, healthy lives.
